There's a lot more on Disney+ than you might think

When people think of Disney+, they immediately picture Marvel superheroes and Star Wars spaceships. But the platform has a surprisingly deep catalog of original content that flies completely under the radar. Here are five shows worth adding to your watchlist.

Andor

If previous Disney+ Star Wars content has left you cold, Andor will change your mind. It's a grounded, politically sophisticated prequel about the early days of the Rebel Alliance. Showrunner Tony Gilroy brings a completely different sensibility to the Star Wars universe — slower, smarter, and more morally complex than anything else in the franchise. It's the rare prequel that makes you appreciate the original trilogy even more.

Only Murders in the Building

Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez play true crime podcast obsessives who get caught up in an actual murder in their New York apartment building. It's witty, warm, and consistently clever. Each season introduces a fresh mystery with new guest stars. Perfect for fans of cozy mysteries who want something with real wit.

What We Do in the Shadows

Based on the cult New Zealand mockumentary, this American spinoff follows a group of vampire roommates in Staten Island. It's consistently one of the funniest shows on television and somehow improves every season. The human energy vampire character is a workplace comedy masterclass. Start from the beginning — it rewards patience.

The Mandalorian (Seasons 1–2)

While it's no longer under the radar, the first two seasons of The Mandalorian remain the high-water mark of Disney+ Star Wars content. Simple premise, great action, and one of the most endearing characters in recent TV history. Watch it if you haven't already — just stop after Season 2.

National Geographic Documentaries

Disney+ includes the entire National Geographic library, and it's enormous. Free Solo (the El Capitan free climbing documentary) won an Oscar for a reason — it's one of the most gripping sports documentaries ever made. The same goes for Meru and countless other NatGeo originals buried in the platform's depths.
